Alicja Wasielewska was born in Kutno, Poland in 1978.

She obtained a degree in Finance and Banking at Lodz University before moving to Edinburgh to improve her English and to enrich her life through the wealth of possibilities and opportunities afforded by living in another country.

In Edinburgh, her curiosity and determination lead her to reorient her life entirely and to follow her passion for art. She undertook the ‘Design and Making Furniture' course at Jewel and Esk Valley College in Edinburgh, and then continued her studies at Edinburgh College of Art where she completed a degree in Product Design. During the degree course, Alicja took advantage of the opportunity to join the exchange programme to the Lahti University of Applied Science, in Finland.

Alicja's interest in mathematics, geometry and natural structures was reflected in her projects.

The critical and analytical thinking as well as organisational skills were of benefit during the development and design processes. Each project was recognised as a unique opportunity to experiment with the materials and techniques and to improve on presentation skills. Also, each project was seen in its own context of time, place and people, while responding to the wider environment.

For her final project, Alicja designed the 'Mille Bolle' and 'Morph' chandeliers. Both of these create their own unique moods and influence the atmosphere in the surrounding environment. The chandeliers act as a focus for visualization and the communication of moods, impressions, emotions and the stimulation of the imagination.
